Hyperpigmentation & Melasma

Discoloration (dark areas on the skin) are a very common complaint in patients seeking dermatologic care. Melasma is discoloration that is often located on the face. Although we don’t know why melasma occurs, it thought to be caused by a combination of hormones in the body and exposure to the sun. At Calkin and Boudreaux Dermatology Associates, our providers determine the cause of the discoloration and discuss options for treatment. Our practice offers chemical peels, lasers and other energy-based devices, and a full range of prescription and nonprescription skin care products to help with discoloration. Remember that regular sunscreen use is an integral part of both prevention and treatment of skin dyspigmentation!
