Acne Treatment

Acne Treatment SacramentoAcne is the term for the blocked pores (blackheads and whiteheads), pimples, and deeper lumps (cysts or nodules) that can appear typically on the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders and upper arms. Seventeen million Americans currently have acne, making it the most common skin disease in the country. While it affects mostly teenagers, and almost all teenagers have some form of acne, adults of any age can have it. Acne is not life-threatening, but it can cause physical disfigurement (scarring) and emotional distress.

Age, Sun and Liver Spots

Age spots, also called liver spots, are flat brown patches on the skin that have darkened in color (“pigmented”) after exposure to sunlight or ultraviolet light. They are commonly seen in people over the age of 40 on areas of skin that are frequently exposed to sunlight, such as the hands, shoulders, forearms, face and forehead. Age spots may look unattractive, but age spots are painless and harmless, although their dark color can delay the diagnosis of some skin cancers.

Crow's Feet Treatment

Crow's Feet Treatment SacramentoCrow's feet are a natural part of the aging process that occurs when the skin becomes thinner, drier and less elastic, allowing lines and creases to form around the corners of the eyes.  Genetics, smoking and excessive exposure to the sun can also lead to the premature aging of your skin. These can be treated with creams, lasers, BOTOX® Cosmetic, dermal fillers as well as surgical procedures.

Broken Blood Vessels

Blood vessels in your body connect arteries to veins. When these vessels narrow or widen too quickly, the walls can tear, and blood can seep out, giving your skin the appearance of thin red or purple lines. While these lines often are not painful, they can be displeasing in appearance, which is why treatments such as laser procedures are used to remove them.

Birthmarks

Birthmarks are benign pigmented spots or patches of skin that range in color from tan, brown and black (moles) to red, pink or purple (vascular lesions, such as strawberry hemangiomas or port wine stains). Though most birthmarks are harmless, they may develop into cancer.

Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis Treatment)

Hyperhidrosis Treatment SacramentoExcessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis, is a rare condition that causes sweating on the hands, feet, armpits, face and genital area, or all over the entire body.  The cause of this condition is unknown, although it often runs in families and begins during childhood.

Patients with hyperhidrosis may sweat all over their body or in certain areas.  Their skin may become white and wrinkled or red and irritated as a result of the constant moisture, and may develop an odor as well.  Living with hyperhidrosis often causes patients to feel embarrassed, awkward and self-conscious, especially during social situations.

Freckles

Freckles SacramentoFreckles are small, circular spots of darkened skin that tend to appear on the face, arms and upper shoulders of people with fair complexions.  They may appear on children as young as a year old, but may also appear randomly, especially after exposure to sun.

Freckles cause as a result of an increased pigment called melanin that is distributed unevenly through the skin.  The occurrence of freckles tends to be hereditary and appear most often in those with fair skin and light hair.  Freckles can be avoided by using sunscreen and other proper protection against prolonged exposures.  However, freckles are usually harmless and do not need to be treated or prevented.
