In addition to the development of lines around the mouth, our lips thin significantly as we get older contributing to an aged appearance. The youthful lip is full, plump and well defined. Lip enhancement creates the desired fuller, plumper lips, and reduces the fine vertical wrinkles around the mouth. The vertical lines can also be addressed with Botox injections and well as laser rejuvenation. Because the lip lines are dynamic lines, meaning they are caused by facial movement, these lines will tend to recur and treatment will need to be repeated.

Lips can be injected with a variety of fillers including collagen, Restylane, and Juvederm. These products are eventually absorbed by the body so repeat treatments are necessary to maintain results. Fortunately, the newer generation fillers last 6 to 9 months making these treatments affordable and convenient. We do not recommend permanent fillers in the lips as they are more likely to lead to irregular contour and firmness.

Lip augmentation procedure

Injections are rendered painless by the use of local anesthesia to numb the mouth. Swelling is common for 1 to 3 days after the procedure. Bruising can also occur but is simple to camouflage with cosmetics. Our staff will be happy to assist you with this. To minimize bruising, please avoid aspirin and NSAIDS (ibuprofen, motrin, alleve, advil, etc) for 2 weeks prior to your appointment.
